What is a half trapeze reformer?

A half trapeze reformer is a studio-grade reformer carriage with a tower fixed at the foot end. The tower typically includes a push-through bar, arm springs and leg springs, and some models add a roll-down bar.

Think of it as a standard reformer with a sturdy spring-loaded frame at one end. That frame gives you a fixed point for springs and a wider set of exercise options, while every regular reformer exercise stays available.

It differs from a full trapeze table, which runs the whole length overhead. A half trapeze reformer attaches at one end only, so it does not support hanging exercises.

As with any reformer, proper form and qualified instruction matter, particularly when you start using the tower springs.

The exercises a half trapeze adds

The tower widens your exercise range without taking anything away. Here is what it adds:

  • Standing spring work, using the tower springs from the floor or carriage.
  • Push-through bar exercises for the arms, back and legs.
  • Roll-downs, using the roll-down bar where one is included.
  • Arm spring series, with the springs set at the foot end.
  • Leg spring work, in a range of positions on the carriage.
  • Every standard reformer exercise stays available, so nothing is lost by adding the tower.

Half trapeze or full trapeze: which suits you?

For a home or studio with a standard ceiling, a half trapeze is usually the more practical pick. The full trapeze's overhead frame is what allows hanging exercises, supported inversions and work off the end of the carriage, much like a cadillac reformer. A half trapeze does not support those, but it keeps the push-through bar, arm springs and leg springs within easy reach.

Space is the other deciding factor. A half trapeze setup needs about the same floor area as a standard reformer, roughly 250cm x 70cm. The tower stands 160-180cm tall, compared with 220cm or more for full trapeze hanging work, so it suits regular ceilings and smaller rooms.

Start with how you'll actually use it, then check your ceiling height and floor space. That usually tells you whether a half or full trapeze fits.

Try the half trapeze tower in our Sydney showroom

The Half Trapeze Reformer Tower is built for both commercial studios and private homes. Photos only tell you so much, so we encourage you to come and handle it before you decide.

The frame is brushed stainless steel with an automotive-grade finish. Contact areas are coated in sweat-resistant vulcanised rubber that is easy to grip, and the timber is knot-less reforested wood with a satin matte finish.

Tower and frame compatibility matters, so we check it with you before anything is ordered. If you choose to buy, we deliver and install it for you.

Questions we hear from Cherrybrook customers

Will a tower fit my reformer?

Not always. Most towers are built for specific reformer models or frame configurations, and fit depends on the end-cap design and frame dimensions. Tell us your reformer model before you buy and we will confirm compatibility.

Is a half trapeze suitable for physio and rehab use?

Physiotherapy clinics do use half trapeze reformers, and the push-through bar and spring system suit that setting. We make no medical claims, though. If you are recovering from an injury, get clearance from your physiotherapist or doctor first, and work with a qualified instructor so your form is right.

What accessories pair well with it?

A Pilates box, hand straps and rings are common additions. The Half Moon Arc Barrel Spine Corrector also sits on the carriage for exercises like side lateral raises.

When might a Cadillac package suit better?

Practices that need full clinical scope may prefer our clinical reformers package with a Cadillac table, since a half trapeze does not support hanging exercises.
