A full reformer with a tower at one end

A wooden half trapeze reformer is a studio-grade reformer with a compact tower fixed at the foot end. You get the springs and carriage of a standard reformer, plus a frame that adds bar and strap work, without the footprint of a cadillac reformer setup.

For many home or studio buyers, that makes it a practical middle step between a plain reformer and a full apparatus.

The extra exercise range

The tower opens up spring-based work that a standard reformer can't offer on its own. Most configurations include a push-through bar plus arm springs and leg springs, and some models add a roll-down bar. Together they support:

  • Push-through bar exercises
  • Roll-downs
  • Arm spring series
  • Leg spring work
  • Standing spring work

Start with how you'll actually use it, then choose the tower and reformer that suit your space. The half trapeze adds variety without taking over the room.

Everything a reformer does stays available

The carriage remains fully functional, so every standard reformer exercise is still open to you. The tower adds options; it doesn't take any away.

Why wood, and how the reformer is built

Wood gives a reformer a stable, solid feel and a look that sits comfortably in a lounge room or a boutique studio. The half trapeze reformer uses fine knot-less reforested wood with a satin matte finish, so the timber frame looks clean and warm rather than clinical.

The tower is brushed stainless steel with an automotive-grade finish, and the contact areas are coated in sweat-resistant, easy-grip vulcanised rubber.

We also stock wood reformers from Pioneer Pilates and Motion Pilates, including the Canadian Maplewood MP-01 with its lighter finish and black upholstery.

What typically comes with the setup

Configurations vary by model, so check the listing for your exact reformer. Common inclusions are:

  • Push-through bar for spring-based bar work from the tower
  • Arm springs and leg springs, included in most configurations
  • Roll-down bar, added on some models as an option
  • MP-01 package items: large sitting box, jump board, padded standing platform, foot strap, ropes and hand straps (see the MP-01 package)
  • Compatibility note: most towers suit specific reformer frames, so confirm the match before you buy

Will it fit in my room?

Probably, yes. The tower on a wooden half trapeze reformer reaches roughly 160-180cm above floor level, so it sits comfortably under a standard ceiling.

A full trapeze needs about 220cm of clearance because it spans overhead and supports hanging exercises. A half trapeze attaches at one end only, with no overhead structure and no hanging work, so that ceiling rule doesn't apply. That makes it a practical choice for smaller studio rooms and home setups.

You'll still need floor space for the carriage and room to step around it. If you're unsure, visit our Sydney showroom to see the footprint in person.

Half trapeze or full trapeze?

A half trapeze suits home practitioners and many boutique studios, while a full trapeze is the upgrade path if you want a complete single-apparatus setup. The difference is structural: a full trapeze runs the whole length overhead, with attachment points at both ends for hanging exercises, supported inversions and work off the carriage end.

A half trapeze reformer keeps the push-through bar work, roll-downs, arm and leg springs and standing spring work, with no overhead frame to plan around.

Physiotherapy clinics that need full apparatus should look at our clinical reformers package paired with a Cadillac Pilates table.

Questions we get about wooden half trapeze reformers

Will a half trapeze tower fit my existing reformer?

Not always. Most towers are made for specific reformer models or frame configurations, depending on end-cap design and frame dimensions. Check the product listing first, or send us your model and we'll confirm the match before you buy.

What pairs well with a half trapeze?

A pilates box, hand straps, rings, extra spring attachments and fuzzy straps are the usual choices. Compatibility depends on the tower model, so confirm the details with us.

Can I use one for rehab work if I'm injured?

Physiotherapists use the push-through bar and spring system for work such as spinal mobilisation and shoulder rehabilitation. If you're recovering from an injury, get clearance from your doctor or physiotherapist first. As with any equipment, proper form and qualified instruction matter, especially when you're learning new spring work.
